There’s a wisdom all of us carry, whether we know how to access it or not. I call it the inner trinity: the inner child, the inner mother, and the inner elder. These three parts of you each hold something valuable, and when you learn how to tap into them, you gain access to creativity, generative power, and deep guidance you may not have known was already yours.
When you’re connected to your inner child, you access creativity, imagination, hope, and energy. When you’re connected to your inner mother, you’re able to cultivate and birth new ideas and experiences in your life. And your inner elder carries the wisdom of your past, present, and future, offering guidance for your life’s path and purpose.
Let’s take a closer look at each one.
The Inner Child
If you’ve been feeling tired, low on energy, or noticing a lot of fear, incapable of trying new things, or lacking hope, that’s often a sign your inner child is out of balance.
When you’re tapped into your inner child’s wisdom, when there’s a sense of safety and room for that part of you to express itself, you gain access to an abundance of energy, hope, creativity, and imagination. Think about a young child you know. She can look at a teapot and suddenly there’s an entire tea party happening, an entire world created out of nothing. That’s the state of mind children live in, a belief that they can do anything, a belief in themselves, a belief in magic.
When we tap into this wisdom in ourselves, we’re able to do so much more. If you’re ready to feel more playful, hopeful, innovative, and limitless in your experience of life, it’s time to start balancing your inner child and drawing on the wisdom she has to offer you.
The Inner Mother
When your inner mother is balanced and you’re tapped into her wisdom, you’re able to be creative and determined, transforming ideas and dreams into reality. You’re able to cultivate and birth new experiences for yourself.
Think of a mama bear, or a tigress, all of that energy, focused and directed. That’s inner mother energy: the ability to move from something ordinary into something extraordinary. Tapping into this part of yourself is what helps you transform your life from where you are now into where you actually want to be.
The Inner Elder
If you’ve noticed yourself feeling lonely, disconnected from others or from yourself, unable to relate to people, rigid, or stuck in a fixed mindset, these are signs that your inner elder’s wisdom isn’t being fully tapped into.
When your inner elder is in balance, you have a strong sense of intuition. You feel connected to everything around you, and deeply guided. What’s beautiful about this part of yourself is that it also gives you the ability to draw on your past, present, and future all at once, to help you make decisions right now.
Here’s what that actually looks like: let’s say you catch yourself in a particular behavior, maybe you’ve been practicing some self-awareness tools, and you think, “aha, I caught this.” Your inner elder helps you look back and ask, what did I do with this behavior in the past, and what did it lead to? Being in this present moment gives you the chance to take that wisdom and decide how you want the future to look different. Your inner elder connects the whole timeline, so you can consciously choose the future you actually want, starting from right here.
Getting to know these three parts of yourself, and learning to nurture the ones that feel out of balance, is at the heart of the work I do, both in 1:1 Self-Integration Counseling and in the Feminine Empowerment Collective, the women’s circle I’ve led since 2021 and am bringing back here to Castelldefels.
I hope you’ve found this helpful.
